  jane Lambert World Intellectual Property Day is a worldwide celebration of the legal protection of innovation and creativity that takes place on or around the 26 April of every year.  That day has been chosen because it is the anniversary of the day on which the Convention Establishing the World Intellectual Property Organization  came into force.  The World Intellectual Property Organization ("WIPO")  is the United Nations specialist agency for intellectual property. By a resolution of  27 April 2017 , the UN General Assembly designated the 21 April as World Creativity and Innovation Day. All UN member states, UN organizations and other international and regional organizations, as well as civil society, including non-governmental organizations and individuals are invited "to observe the day in an appropriate manner and in accordance with national priorities, in order to raise awareness of the role of creativity and innovation in problem-solving and, by extension, economic, social and sustainable development." I wish all my readers a happy World Intellectual Property Day.   Folk may think that that is an odd greeting. But is it?  When someone is ill don't you wish him a speedy recovery? What is more likely to accelerate his recovery than the medicine or medical device that may have cost millions to develop.  The fruits of that investment are protected by the patents, trade marks and other rights that prevent competitors from taking advantage of the research and development work known collectively as "intellectual property".   Intellectual property is the glue that holds investment in branding, design, technology and creative works together.  So the greeting "Happy World Intellectual Property Day" is a kind of celebration of the world's advances in science, technology, the arts and literature. Jane Lambert The World Intellectual Property Organization is the specialist UN agency for intellectual property.  It was established by the Convention Establishing the World Intellectual Property Organization ( "WIPO Convention" )  which came into force on 26 April 1970. Ever since the anniversary has been celebrated throughout the world as World Intellectual Property Day. The day is an opportunity to raise public awareness of intellectual property. Governments, intellectual property offices, trade associations, professional associations, patent and trade mark agencies, law firms, barristers' chambers, universities and schools around the world hold seminars, workshops, exhibitions and other events to celebrate the day.  Here are some suggestions from the WIPO as well as records of the events from previous years.
